All our doctors are fully qualified and registered, and each pharmacy we work with has a private consultation room to ensure your comfort and confidentiality.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions about appointments, prescriptions, payments, and your account. If something’s missing, contact us and we will get back to you promptly.

We work with companies and businesses and do not see patients directly. We see anyone of any age. Patients under the age of 18 need to have a legal guardian/parent with them. Anyone below 16, we encourage them to be seen in person at any of our locations UK-wide.

In order to have a video appointment with ThanksDoc you will need a mobile, tablet or laptop with a good camera, working microphone and strong internet connection.

As our clinicians are licensed to provide prescriptions and treatments that can be dispensed within the UK only. We are currently not able to provide consultations with patients outside of the UK.

If you miss your appointment please book again. We are unable to offer refunds if you cancel your appointment with less than 48hours notice.

If your appointment is disrupted, the doctor will try to make contact with you again within 15 minutes.  If you do not hear from us, please contact us via patienthelp@thanksdoc.co.uk

What medications can you prescribe?

ThanksDoc GPs can prescribe a wide range of medications for non-emergency conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Antibiotics for infections (if clinically appropriate)

  • Allergy medications (e.g., antihistamines, nasal sprays)

  • Skin treatments (e.g., acne creams, eczema medications)

  • Pain relief (e.g., anti-inflammatory medications)

  • Digestive health treatments (e.g., acid reflux medications)

  • Women’s health medications (e.g., contraception, period delay tablets)

  • Men’s health treatments (e.g., erectile dysfunction medication, hair loss treatments)

  • Mental health medications (e.g., antidepressants, anxiety treatments)

  • Chronic condition management (e.g., asthma inhalers, blood pressure medications)

We do NOT prescribe controlled drugs or medications for emergency conditions.

ThanksDoc does NOT prescribe:

  • Strong opioid painkillers (e.g., morphine, oxycodone, tramadol)

  • Sleeping tablets or sedatives (e.g., diazepam, lorazepam)

  • ADHD medications (e.g., methylphenidate).

If you require urgent medication for a life-threatening condition, please seek immediate medical assistance by calling 999 or visiting your nearest A&E department.

What medications do you NOT prescribe?

To ensure patient safety and reduce risks of misuse, ThanksDoc GPs will not prescribe the drugs listed below.

  • ThanksDoc does not allow the prescribing of class A,B or C drugs.
  • ThanksDoc does not allow the prescription of Schedule 1-5 medications.
  • Z-Drugs
    • Zopiclone
    • Zolpidem
    • Zaleplon
  • High-Risk Medications
    • Opioids (e.g., Morphine, Oxycodone, Fentanyl, Codeine, Tramadol, Buprenorphine, Hydromorphone, Methadone)
    • Benzodiazepines (e.g., Diazepam, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Temazepam)
    • Barbiturates (e.g., Phenobarbital, Secobarbital)
    • Gabapentinoids (e.g., Gabapentin, Pregabalin)
    • Strong Stimulants (e.g., Methylphenidate, Dexamfetamine, Modafinil)
  • Drugs Open to Abuse
    • Ketamine
    • GHB/GBL (Gamma-hydroxybutyrate/gamma-butyrolactone)
    • Anabolic Steroids
    • Synthetic Cannabinoids
  • Addictive Drugs
    • All controlled drugs listed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001
    • Any substance known to have a high potential for dependency or abuse

  • Controlled Substances
    • ThanksDoc GPs will not prescribe Schedule 1-5 controlled substances. Medications requiring specialist review or long-term monitoring should be referred to an appropriate specialist.

ThanksDoc provides access to experienced GPs for a wide range of non-emergency medical concerns. Our doctors can assess, diagnose, and manage conditions such as:

  • Minor infections (e.g., ear, throat, urinary tract infections)

  • Skin conditions (e.g., acne, eczema, rashes)

  • Allergies and hay fever

  • Digestive issues (e.g., acid reflux, IBS)

  • Women’s health concerns (e.g., contraception advice, menstrual issues)

  • Men’s health concerns (e.g., erectile dysfunction, hair loss)

  • Mental health support (e.g., anxiety, mild depression)

  • Minor injuries (e.g., sprains, mild burns)

  • Chronic condition management (e.g., asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure)

We are NOT an emergency service 

ThanksDoc does NOT treat medical emergencies. If you are experiencing any of the following, please call 999 or visit your nearest A&E department immediately:

  • Chest pain or difficulty breathing

  • Severe bleeding or head injury

  • Sudden loss of consciousness

  • Stroke symptoms (e.g., face drooping, slurred speech)

  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

  • Seizures or fits

  • Suspected broken bones with deformity

  • Sudden vision loss

Please check with your referrer; they will inform you of their in-person fees. Please visit the ‘Prices’  page for more information on our online fees.

ThanksDoc sees patients who are referred to us via other health care providers, for example, pharmacies or blood testing laboratories. You cannot book with us directly, which is why we do not advise on fees for inpatient

Yes, if clinically appropriate, our doctors can issue private prescriptions, which can be sent to a pharmacy of your choice or emailed to you to collect form any Pharmacy. Alternatively, you can ask the doctor to send the prescription to your home address

One prescription is included in your consultation for free. Please Note, the prescription is the written/typed piece of paper which includes the medication name. You take this to the pharmacy. The pharmacy will give you the medication which you would need to pay for.

The medication cost varies depending on the type of medication. We can advise you on the average cost of the medication during the consultation; however, the price is dependent on the pharmacy.

Absolutely. If deemed appropriate by the doctor, we can provide sick notes for work or school and referral letters to specialists. These are private sick notes, they do not entitle you to state benefits.

While ThanksDoc GPs can help with a wide range of medical issues, there are certain services and conditions we do not treat or manage through our platform:

  • Prescriptions for controlled drugs (including strong painkillers, sleep aids, and some anxiety/depression medications)

  • Consultations for patients located outside the UK

  • Repeat prescriptions for ongoing treatments (unless signed up for a membership package, which will include regular monitoring)

  • Emergency conditions including:

    • Severe chest pain or suspected heart attack

    • Seizures or neurological deficits

    • Sudden or heavy bleeding

    • Suspected stroke (e.g., facial droop, slurred speech)

    • Sudden severe pain

    • Breathing difficulties or persistent breathlessness

    • Fever with confusion/disorientation

    • Severe mental health crises (e.g. psychosis, suicidal thoughts)

  • Pregnancy-related complications

  • Major trauma or head injuries

  • Patients undergoing chemotherapy with suspected infection

  • Dental problems or oral health concerns

  • NHS referrals or prescriptions

  • Translation services —  Please book a double appointment if a translator is needed. We can try to provide this free of charge however, in some instances, fees may apply

  • Women’s health: thrush, contraception, period issues

  • Men’s health: erectile dysfunction, hair loss

  • Sexual health: STI advice and treatment

  • Travel health: advice, vaccinations, and medication

  • Minor injuries and general health concerns
