Travel health

Pre-travel advice, malaria prevention, and travel medication, so you can travel prepared.

In short

A private GP can give you destination-specific travel health advice, prescribe malaria prevention and travel medication where appropriate, and point you to accredited centres for travel vaccinations. Book ahead, some advice and medication work best started before you go.

What we offer

How a private GP can help

  • A pre-travel consultation tailored to your destination and plans
  • Destination risk advice (food and water, insect bites, sun, altitude)
  • Malaria prevention advice and prescription where appropriate
  • Travellers' diarrhoea standby treatment and other travel medication where suitable
  • Advice on what vaccinations you need and where to get them
  • Guidance for travelling with existing conditions and medication

What we don't do

  • Administering travel vaccinations on site (we advise and signpost to accredited travel clinics)
  • Yellow fever vaccination, which must be given at a registered yellow fever centre

FAQ

Common questions about travel health

How far ahead should I book?
Ideally 4-6 weeks before travel, as some vaccines need time to work and malaria tablets are often started before you go. We can still help with shorter notice.
Can you prescribe malaria tablets?
Yes, where appropriate for your destination and health. We advise on the right option and when to start and stop them.
Do you give travel vaccinations?
We provide the advice on what you need and prescribe travel medication, and signpost you to accredited travel clinics or pharmacies for the vaccinations themselves.
Can I travel with my condition and medication?
Usually yes, with planning. We can advise on carrying medication, time zones, and a travel letter where helpful.
