Sick notes

Private fit notes for work, issued where clinically appropriate after an assessment.

In short

A private GP can issue a private sick note (fit note) where it's clinically appropriate, after assessing you. These are private documents for your employer; they are not NHS fit notes and don't entitle you to state benefits.

What we offer

How a private GP can help

  • A proper assessment of the health issue affecting your work
  • A private fit note where it's clinically appropriate, stating fitness for work and any adjustments
  • Advice on a safe return to work and any adjustments that could help
  • Treatment of the underlying problem where we can
  • Onward referral where specialist input is needed
  • Clear, prompt documentation

What we don't do

  • Backdated notes, or notes without an assessment
  • NHS fit notes (these come from your NHS GP) or notes for state benefit purposes

FAQ

Common questions about sick notes

Can I get a sick note without being seen?
No. A fit note is a clinical document, so we need to assess you first. After the consultation, we can issue a private note where it's appropriate.
Will my employer accept a private fit note?
Most employers accept private fit notes, especially for the first 7 days (self-certification covers that period anyway) and beyond. Check your employer's policy if unsure.
Can you backdate a note?
We can only certify what we assess. We can't issue notes for periods we haven't been able to assess, in line with good medical practice.
Is this an NHS fit note?
No. This is a private fit note for your employer. NHS fit notes, and anything for state benefits, come from your NHS GP.
